How To Upgrade Your Yoga Practice With Technology

Guest Post by Sheila Johnson

With work, family, friends and hobbies, most of us end up neglecting something that keeps us mentally or physically well, like yoga. Nowadays, there’s an app to cover just about any need you have, so you can turn things around with the help of technology.

As of 2019, there are about 2 million apps available for Apple and Android users, and you’re sure to find one that will streamline your work in the popular practice of yoga. Take your workout game to the next level with the help of apps and a good smartphone.

Yoga In Less Than 10 Minutes

Give yourself at least seven minutes in the mornings, before bed or wherever you can fit them in to practice yoga. Download the Yoga Studio app and build your own classes or use one of the classes already available for however long you want, wherever you are.

While yoga can be challenging, it doesn’t have to be hard finding the time for practice. Set an alarm or a reminder to give yourself over to whatever style yoga you prefer for a few minutes every day.

Watch Yourself, See What You’re Working With

To monitor any progress and improve your performance, you have to know where you started. Set goals and keep track of your progress by periodically logging any necessary information. Look to apps and a yoga community to help you out.

If you’re new or have been practicing for some time, consider the help of photography, which is a way of monitoring performance and perfecting poses. Keep a record of your progress right on your phone, in an album dedicated to yoga, and share to social media. This could lead to new connections and support from a community, and their words of encouragement just might put an end to comparing yourself to others. Whether it’s your body or ability level that’s different, comparing yourself to people in class isn’t healthy for your mind or body. Focusing on your own goals and capabilities will stop your negative thoughts.

A living journal is another way to track data, helping you see how far you’ve come and how far you can go. Give yourself a goal to learn a new pose every week, and watch the magic happen as you push yourself to new limits.

Try New Things

Raising or setting expectations for yourself is great for overall growth, as long as you understand that failing is okay. In order to continue expanding on existing skills, you have to try new things. The first few times you do something new, including poses, you could fail, and that’s okay.

The Down Dog yoga app is all about practicing new combinations of poses. Each practice within the app is fresh, so you won’t be following along to the same routine for the next week.

Trying new things, even yoga apps, gives you the opportunity to explore your capabilities and push yourself. Don’t stop there.

If you happen upon something that gives you trouble, select a target area in the app to double down on it. Failing is simply a different outcome than the one you expect, according to Yogapedia. The only thing left to do is to continue trying to improve rather than focusing on one outcome.

It’s important to have a device capable of supporting your many yoga apps, so you can take your practice on the go. With an unlimited data plan and a newer-model phone or tablet, yoga is accessible wherever you have a connection. Upgrading to the newest tablet can end up saving you money in the long run, too, since some providers offer tablet deals so you can purchase a new device when you sign with them.

New routines, poses, apps and phones should be exciting additions to your life. Take new encounters as they come, and use them as learning experiences. Become a better yogi in no time by turning to technology for a boost and setting goals for yourself each day.
